Recipe for sugar-free candied orange peel
For this sugar-free candied orange peel, all you need is the untreated peel from your oranges (organic ones are best), half a teaspoon of salt, a splash of water for simmering, and the star of the show, Xucker Organic xylitol. You could also use Xucker Premium if you fancy.
Instructions
- First off, give those organic oranges a good wash, skin and all.
- Chop off the top and bottom bits, then peel the oranges. Cut the peel strips into whatever shapes you fancy.
- Get some water boiling in a pot, then stir in the salt and about three-quarters of the organic xylitol. Keep the rest aside for later.
- Pop the orange peels into the water and let them simmer over a medium heat for about 20 minutes.
- After that, turn off the heat, let them sit in the warm water for another 10 minutes, stirring gently now and then.
- Drain the water, and then lay the peels out on a wire rack at room temperature to drip dry.
- Once the peels have had about an hour to dry out a bit, roll them completely in the remaining organic xylitol.
- Finally, leave the candied peels to sit until they're nice and dry all the way through. Enjoy!
